Such a beautiful, fun, love-filled day!  Kelsey & Nick share an admiration for each other that radiates to every single person around them and emanates a sense of calm & happiness  <3.  The couple knows how to party, and how to make every single person feel like they are so important in their lives - their day was clearly a celebration of not just the couple, but the life and love of so many around them - those there in person, and those there in spirit.

I am a huge fan of natural light, will do almost anything to avoid using a flash...and almost never use a lens hood - I actually INVITE the lens flare, glare, strange colors & lines that nature contributes to my images.  However, never ever has the light "spoke" through my images more than it did during this wedding.

The couple not only had pictures and mementos of Kelsey's father sprinkled throughout their day - pictures framed at the salon while Kels got ready, on the bar with a Red Sox clad "Jer-Bear" (who had his own drink!), with a bouquet of sunflowers...Kelsey even had his picture on the back of her shoes so that he could be there to help walk her down the aisle!  Kelsey also had a huge surprise for her groom when she presented Nick with a Grateful Dead ice cream wedding cake to remember one of his closest friends!  The importance of remembering those not able to be there was clear, and  I truly believe these special spirits chose to reciprocate the love - beautiful rainbows and "orbs" appeared in the images at key moments throughout the day- during the first look, as Kelsey & Nick said their final "I-Do"s, shared their first kiss, walked away as husband & wife, and finally as they lit lanterns to close out the evening. Do you all get chills like I do?<3 <3 <3

Kelsey & Nick - thank you for letting me share in all of the amazing moments throughout your day.  I felt honored to be the one to be there to witness the love and happiness & I wish you a lifetime of pure joy!

Mansfield Hollow with the J Family

The J Family introduced me to an amazing new location that I am sure I will frequent for shoots going forward:  The Mansfield Hollow Dam.  The place was breathtaking.  So serene, and seriously no end to the settings/backgrounds!  We walked down a little path until we came to a body of water that I'm told is excellent for kayaking on.  Their little guy threw a stone at the water and when he saw it land on some ice, thought it was a great idea to run in after it!  The edges of the water were not frozen, so he took a nice, brisk, mid-afternoon, mid-December dip!  He was the epitome of a trooper though, and with a little love from mom & dad, and some distraction, continued the shoot without any problem! (luckily his clothing really didn't soak up the water, so don't worry he was not dripping wet the whole time!!)  We had an awesome stroll around the place, and I cannot wait to get back to this location for my next shoot!

Fall at Worthington Pond with the K's

12/5/2014

Today’s feature is on one of my long standing clients, Family K.  My first shoot with this family was a maternity session when they were pregnant with baby #1.  This past June they welcomed baby #2.  Reason #234093 why I am in love with this profession – it is hard to call what I do a job; clients usually don’t stay just clients, they become much more than that to me, and I am extremely honored that I get to capture important and heartfelt moments as the seasons (and their lives) change.

In October, the K's and I met at Worthington Pond in Somers, CT for a family session.   It was a super windy cold October day (theme from my prior posts?), yet as usual, my clients (ALL of them - I seriously have yet to find a client unwilling to try something for a picture!) are so awesome, and this family trekked around from the rocky hillside to the barn, fields, and everywhere in between.  We had a lovely crisp fall stroll - even the newest little member was un-phased by the chill in the air!

At home with the G's

The next family feature is the G family.  We shot on location at the family’s home in Vernon, CT - where, in an effort to give their images a warm holiday vibe, the family had put up their tree and holiday decorations nice and early for the shoot!  It was awesome! The decor and holiday outfits (and jammies) truly worked like magic – I left the shoot singing Christmas carols and even more excited for the holidays this year!

The "in between" moments..a spotlight on full sessions

12/3/2014

I know my posts lately have been all about my mini sessions.  However, I wanted to write today about my full private photography sessions.  I enjoy these sessions most, because the pressure is off, and it gives me a chance to step back and capture the family in a very relaxed environment.  Most of these sessions are shot at a client's home, or at a park, or another location of their choice.  Regardless of where we end up, by the time we are halfway through the hour long session, you can really see each family fall into their "own" and become more comfortable with the fact that I'm there, with a camera, capturing everything.

Up until a few weeks ago (when I decided to offer minis this year), this was all I knew.  Don’t get me wrong, the mini sessions have been amazing – I have been very pleased with the amount of beautiful, quality images I’ve been able to capture of some gorgeous subjects :).  I do, however, want to let you all know just how much more relaxed full sessions are - and how with these sessions, I am able to capture some “in-between” moments that most of the time just do not happen in the amount of time that minis allow.  For the rest of this week, I will feature a different family a day from these full sessions :)

Today's feature is the J Family.  We started the session at their beautiful home in Madison, CT.  They have a river running through the woods in their backyard (awesome) - and a quintessential tire swing!  We also had plenty of time to take a drive down to the local beach.  Because it was a super chilly, crisp, fall day, we had the beach to ourselves - the perfect ending location to add some variety to our shoot!

Mini Session Fun!

It’s almost thanksgiving.  I am already feeling overly thankful this year.  I am SO grateful for my family, our friends, everyone’s health.  I am SUPER thankful to my clients - both old and new.  You are the reason I get to do what I love every single day!  Thank you for choosing me to capture some special, beautiful memories for you!

My mini sessions were new this year, and they were SO fun!  We had one weekend with beautiful weather, and the next was totally freezing (we even saw a few snowflakes!), but both weekends were such a blast!  I came home from all sessions re-invigorated, ready to edit, and excited to get stuff done!  I wanted to share some of the images with you all, and because these were so fun, I am really thinking about trying to squeeze in one more day of minis this holiday season!  I can get the images out within a week for holiday card ordering, and in terms of locations, I am open to suggestions -
I have a few location ideas in mind, but am always looking for new exciting places to shoot at.

If anyone is/would be interested in booking a mini session, please let me know as soon as possible! :)

Jerry & Carissa - 8.20.2014

A perfect day for a beautiful couple!

All in attendance could feel the love in the air at Jerry & Carissa's August 20th wedding.  From exchanging their own vows, having live music played by one of the groomsmen during the ceremony, and including Ethan with a touching bracelet ceremony; this bride and groom thought of everything to give the day a true 'personal touch', and to give their guests a real treat!

The Salem Cross Inn was the perfect setting, and the homemade decor and white strung lights sprinkled throughout the reception area added a special flare and gave the entire evening an unmistakable glow and warmth.  This was one of those weddings where the dance floor was never empty, and everyone looked like they were having the time of their lives.

These two lovebirds topped off the night with the release of white paper lanterns into the night sky to remember those who were not able to attend in person, but were there in spirit.  Watching the family lay quietly together on the cement to watch the lights disappear was nothing short of magical.  <3

Thank you, Jerry & Carissa, for allowing me to capture your special day.  Wishing you a lifetime of happiness!

Everything is FALLing into place..

The leaves are all changing now, and so is my life.  It has been one week since I began my new job/career/lifestyle, and to say that I am loving every minute is an understatement.  There are no words to describe how I feel.  I guess UNREAL is the closest word that comes to mind.  I feel like I can breathe again.

By the graces of God, and luck, and the stars aligning, and who knows what else, I Finally woke up about 5 weeks ago.  I realized that my life was not going as planned.  I spent way too much time doing things that I didn't enjoy.  I realized I’d rather focus my time and energy on a career I love, on my husband, and on the two amazing kids in my life.  This decision will mean quite a few changes to what we would consider our "normal" lifestyle.  These changes mean new challenges, and I am SO ready - no matter what, I get to wake up and have breakfast with my family.  I get to kiss my husband goodbye (while he is awake, not still sleeping in bed), to drop E off at preschool, and pick him up.  I can be there for every word C adds to her vocabulary.  I am going to be home to kiss boo-boos and nurse sick babies back to health.  I know there will be days that I will have to fight them both to take a nap (like today), days where I’ll be cleaning clothes, sheets, bottles all day long (like today, also)…and on those days I still won’t be able to get any of my photography work done until they get to bed (like now!)!  But even with those days looming, I KNOW with my whole heart this is the right decision.

Cheesy song, but One Republic, “Feel Again” has been on repeat ever since this decision was made.  Prior to that day I would leave work almost every single day crying.  Crying because I wasn’t sure how I let my life get to how it was/couldn’t figure out what it was I was so focused on and WHY.  Crying because my kids were growing up wayyyy to fast, and because I had not found the time or energy lately to put into my relationship with my husband or my true career/passion - my photography business.

Since that day, I have cried a lot more…but it is a different kind of crying, the tears that stream down my face now are PURE happiness and joy.  I know that most people do not have the opportunity to make a decision like this, and for that I have no one but my husband to thank.  He is the reason why we have any savings at all.  He is the one who has supported me on every. single. path I have gone down.  I thought that when we finally made the decision I would stay home to focus on photography and our babies, that “mr. savings/excel guru/financial mind” would undoubtedly hold a sort of grudge or be a tiny bit angry at me.  Instead he showed up at home on the day I gave my notice with a huge bouquet of beautiful roses.  He told me he believed this decision was the right one, and that I could and would make this dream a reality.  He also immediately pulled up the Canon website and said it was time for me to get my dream camera.  I LOVE this man.  Not only because of his unwavering support, (for that I am the most thankful/humbled and feel like the luckiest person in the world), but also because of how he betters me.  Because of him, and his support, I am more driven than EVER to prove him right.

I guess it’s not fair to say it’s only him I have to thank.  I also have the amazing advice, love and support from all of my friends and family.  You all know who you are, and the times we’ve shared discussing this.  I am forever grateful to you all.  <3

Lastly, to all of my amazing clients who have helped to grow KHI to what it is today – Thank you, thank you, thank you!  You now have me 100% (when I’m not taking care of my babies).  While I have always poured my heart and soul into everything I have done, it is just slightly different, because now I have more time to focus on THIS career and to provide only the absolute best end product to all of you!

I am currently in the process of editing my site and have about a million and one sessions to post about in the next coming weeks (Don't worry - pics for all sessions were delivered on time!! I just have not had the opportunity to post any of the sneak peeks all the way back to March!!! (I guess you could say life got away from me a bit!)).  I also have quite a few holiday specials to offer, along with the debut of this BLOG!  I will attempt to blog often and keep you all posted with previews, specials and fun stories that come with the daily life of a SAHM/photographer :) Be prepared for a KHI overload...
